That which burns casts a shadow. Passage (59:28) can be regarded in the dark shape falling off the slow combustion between noted musicians Chris Meyer and Robert Rich. Its four precision built soundscapes ascend on the tension between order and chaos, freedom and restraint, midnight and dawn. Settling on a different tone for each of the different night zones the music moves through, Meyer & Rich glow so with invention and ideas that we never lose our way. As melodic lines whisper in subtle nocturnal atmospheres, the mood becomes one of seeking and searching. Aspiring to ideals of aural innovation, amidst a sense of outward motion both heard and felt, Passage follows a trajectory along telluric currents, from magic and myth to meaning and understanding. Its rare Ambient designs are in constant motion - asking us to be present at the center of our own human drama. Reflecting that there are still mysteries yet to be revealed, Passage shows no shortage of life. Ruminating inside the brilliance of some hidden silence, then darkening, without fully dispelling consonance it descends into an electronically charged dream chamber conjured just for us. This collaboration confers a quieter kind of cognitive intervention - one which may occur only within the willing stillness of the listening mind.
